A really encouraging performance from the U11s at home in the first round of the Cup, although it wasn’t enough to beat a talented Trojans A team.

Marcus captained the side, won the toss and elected to bat. Ben and Ewan opened the bowling and set the tone for a good performance in the field. Twyford bowled with real consistency and there was some great fielding on display. A fantastic run out from a direct hit to the stumps – side on! – from Caspar and a brilliant catch from Matt were particular highlights. Harry also deserves a special mention for his accurate bowling which really tested the Trojans batsmen and overall Twyford conceded fewer wides, no-balls and byes than in their previous matches which was very encouraging. Trojan’s, though, had some very talented batsmen and went on to score 127 at the end of the 20 overs.

Marcus and Nat opened the batting and got off the a good start, settling into a nice rhythm and putting on some good early runs before Nat was run out from another excellent direct hit from a long throw from the field. Thomas Gabriel batted well with Marcus before losing his wicket to some very good bowling. Freddie and Thomas Snowdon helped put on some more runs but we were finding it hard to match the Tojan run rate. Marcus retired on 31 after an excellent innings. Unfortunately John was run out quickly but Matt played a lovely innings partnering Ben and then Ewan. After 20 overs, Twyford made 88 with 2 wickets to spare which would have been a great batting performance had it not been for Trojans big score.

Overall, it was a really good performance despite the final result. Trojans A were very strong opponents and we matched them well.

Marcus was the man of the match for his lovely innings with special mention to Harry for his excellent bowling.
