Game: 18th June 2017

What a glorious day for cricket. The sun beaming down at 10am already. Twyford were welcomed by a very friendly and accommodating Trojans team at their lovely ground on Stoneham lane. Rohan was selected as the skipper and opted for Twyford to bowl first. Oscar Williams making his debut.

After warm ups and some serious hydrating things got under way. Rohan starting things off and making an immediate impact with the third ball of the innings, bowling the Trojans opener middle stump, and also went on to complete a wicket maiden for this first over. Great start. Oscar G, Milo and Rich bowled the following three overs to the Trojans first pair. With some good accurate bowling and great fielding Trojans were restricted to only 15 off the first 4 overs. Conor, Tom and debutant Oscar W then bowled the next three over and kept the runs down keeping the scoreboard pressure on Trojans. Oli M was next up to bowl the final over of the second pair and bowled the second wicket maiden of the innings. Trojans cumulative score after two pairs still only 25. Twyford on top. Trojans third pair managed to get some momentum and scored freely but Twyford did not get despondent and maintained some great fielding. Trojans managed to now get their score above 50. Oscar G then bowled the 13th over of the innings and maintained some great accuracy and the batsman feeling the pressure attempted a big shot which went high into the midwicket region but Oli M was on hand to complete a smart catch. 15th over bowled by Connor mirrored the 13th with another smart catch being gleefully accepted by Oli M. Rohan finished the innings off with a great accurate last over. Trojans finishing on 261 for 5. Special mentions to Oli M for his two catches and Oscar G for his great direct hit run out. Rohan, Oli M, Oscar G and Connor all picking up wickets.

A quick turnaround supplemented by biscuits, water and more layers of sun cream.

First in for Twyford looking to making a good start were Oli M and Oscar G. A wicket in the first over put Trojans on top but the following three overs produced 37 runs with some powerful hitting (congrats to Oli M for hitting his first six of the season) and some great (sometimes too eager) running between the wickets. Great start – just what we needed. Second pair in was Connor and Milo who batted with confidence but with some great bowling and fielding Trojans managed to effect a flurry of wickets and gain ascendency. Both Connor and Milo managed to finish off with a boundary each. Rich and newcomer Oscar W were in next. The pressure and first game nerves clearly did not affect Oscar W as he proceeded to hit 3 fours on debut. Both batted with confidence but the Trojans bowling was tight and scoring was not that easy. Twyford however were still 20 behind. Last pair Tom and Rohan strode to the crease looking to get Twyford over the line. Some great sensible batting and running by both Tom and Rohan saw Twyford draw level with 9 balls to go. The last over yielded 16 runs as both helped themselves to boundaries and clever running produced a three. Congrats Tom and Rohan – their fourth consecutive 30 plus partnership. Another win for Twyford making it 4 from 4 for the season. Twyford ending on 284 for 8. Oli M top scored with a great 36 – great job Oli. Special mention to Oscar on Debut in scoring 13 including three fours and to Rohan for finishing on 16.

A good win by 23 runs in the end against a very good and organised Trojans team. Massive congrats to all the players this week for digging deep and showing great resolve in getting across the line in a hard fought battle. For our next challenge we welcome St Cross to Twyford school next week.
