Twyford welcomed Tichborne Park to their home ground at Twyford School. Samuel H was selected as skipper and Twyford welcomed two debutants to the team this week, Milo and Ollie C. Tichborne Park won the toss and elected to bowl. Tichborne Park were an unknown quantity as we have not faced them in the past few years. Confidence was high after our win against IBM. Tom and Rohan went in to start the innings. The partnership got off to a great start, 11 off the first over. Rohan punishing anything loose and Tom rotating the strike well. Momentum continued and after their 4 overs the score was already 37. This was the third consecutive 30 plus partnership for Tom and Rohan. Great start. Next in was Rich and debutant Ollie C. Runs flowed freely with some good running between the wickets and some solid defensive shots we needed. Well played – score 50 plus after two pairs.
Next in was the other debutant Milo and Connor. Milo starting off with great confidence and not showing any nerves at all hitting two fours in the first over, great start to the partnership. Connor continued where he left off from last week with some clean hitting and getting himself a further two fours. Another 30 plus partnership taking the score to almost 90. Final pair was Samuel and Oscar. The partnership started off like a fireworks show raining fours and sixes, 21 off the first one. Next over got pretty much the same treatment, Samuel helping himself to another six, a further 19 scored. The penultimate over was rather more subdued but still over 10 scored off it. A 50 partnership already in 3 overs – I cant remember the last time we had a 50 partnership. Another 20 off the final over with Samuel (looking like he has just returned from the IPL) scooping a six over the wicket keepers head, his third for the innings. The final partnership of Samuel and Oscar yielded 70 runs which I believe to be a new record for Twyford. Congrats Samuel and Oscar!
Twyford ended on 357 for 0 wickets, yes no wickets! What an achievement from the team. To lose no wickets and get a 350 plus score is incredible. Well played to all. Samuel top scored with 42 (not confirmed but I believe this is also a new individual batting record for Under 9) with Rohan next best with a great 28.
Time for tea. Another great spread provided by the Twyford parents well received by the Tichborne players and parents.
After tea Twyford set out to defend their formidable total. Rohan opening up and bowling a good accurate first over, only 2 off it. Some good fielding and accurate bowling kept the scoring rate down for the Tichborne first pair. After 4 overs the score was only 15. Tom was then handed the ball in the fifth over and started with great accuracy , no runs and two wickets. Twyford in the ascendency. Debutant Ollie C then bowled and bowled a great first over for Twyford. Next up was Rich who struck with his first ball, his first wicket for Twyford – well bowled Rich. Second pair down and only a further 13 runs added for 3 wickets. Milo then bowled his second over to the third Tichborne pair and also picked up his first wicket with a great catch by Samuel at short mid-wicket. Another maiden by Tom followed (2 overs 2 maidens for Tom – well bowled !). Ollie C finishing off the 4th over with another economical over. Some further accurate bowling and spirited fielding for the last four overs saw a further wicket fall, clean bowled by Samuel restricting Tichborne to 247. Special mention to Tom for bowling two consecutive maiden overs and to Samuel for his catch and deadly accurate throw to affect the Run Out.
A great win for Twyford by 110 runs. A great team effort batting, bowling and fielding. Well done to Ollie C and Milo in their first game.
Next challenge is Trojans who will be a good team.
