After our good win against Hursley Park in week 1 of the league confidence was high but were now facing IBM Hursley who knocked us out of the pre-season tournament. Rohan was selected as captain, but unfortunately lost the toss. IBM chose to bat first. Rohan started off as usual running in with great pace. Maggie , Oscar, who bowled a maiden over, and Oli M then bowled the next 3. IBM only managed 6 off the first four overs – what a great start. The Twyford fielding was brilliant and enthusiastic with some great saves on the boundary by Tom and Robbie H. IBM scored their first boundary in the 7th over, a great testament to how well we bowled and fielded. The bowling continued to be accurate and fielding sharp restricting IBM to only two further boundaries. No dropped catches this week and Samuel H taking a smart catch at short midwicket. A great all round fielding performance spurred on by the vocal support on the side lines. Congrats to Samuel H and Conor for picking up wickets. Special mention to Conor for a great display with the wicket keeping gloves this week, no byes were scored whilst he was keeping. IBM Hursley finishing on 254 for 2.
Tea was as always enjoyed by all. Big thanks to all who provided the snacks and drinks.
Next was the Twyford innings…….. which started with an explosion of fours with Oscar smashing the first four balls of the innings for four , each to a different part of the ground. The momentum was set in motion. Maggie and Oscar as they did last week ran brilliantly between the wickets and hit boundaries in each of their overs. Finishing with a brilliant partnership of 42, only 12 behind the IBM score after the first pair. Next in Tom and Rohan. Not to be outdone by Oscar, Rohan proceeded to hit five of the six balls in the first over for four. It continued raining fours and great singles. Tom and Rohan ending with a partnership just short of 50. Robbie and Conor strode to the crease next and although some over eagerness led to a run out, this however did not dampen spirits and Robbie and Conor continued with some great running and Conor dispatching a great four. After three pairs Twyford had the ascendency. Enter Samuel and Oli M , 17 off the first over, 17 off the second over, 16 off the third over – a 50 partnership already off only 3 overs which included a majestic straight drive Six by Samuel. 7 off the last over and Twyford finished on 343 for 4 wickets. A great total , 3 partnerships over 40 is a great achievement. Special mentions to Samuel for scoring 34 and Rohan for scoring 33.
2 from 2 is a great start to the season with so many positives but none bigger than the team spirit and enthusiasm we have in our team with everyone contributing.
