Twyford were welcomed by Hursley Park at their very picturesque grounds. Samuel H was selected to skipper the team, Twyford lost the toss and Hursley decided to bat first (Samuel would have fielded first anyway). Samuel got to choose the match ball and decided the bright pink ball would suit conditions best. Hursley Park made a cautious start against the pace of Rohan. Oli M was next up to bowl and struck almost immediately with a well taken caught and bowled. A few more quiet overs and Twyford were applying the pressure with some great enthusiastic fielding including a great attempt at a catch by Robbie H at Square Leg.  In the 6th over Tom B struck with a great ball, bowling the Hursley Park batsman middle stump.

No boundaries were scored between overs 6 and 13 due to some great straight bowling and brilliant fielding, the spirit in the team was great with loads of encouragement. Just when Hursley looked like they might have got some momentum Samuel H struck with a magnificent pick up and direct hit run out ! Hurlsey Park only managed 14 from their last 4 overs bowled by Oli M , Samuel H , Tom B and Rohan – with Rohan finishing in style with a quick straight ball which knocked over the middle stump of the Hursley Park batsman. A great fielding and bowling effort all round. Special mentions to Tom and Rohan for their wickets and to Oli M and Samuel for their catches and Run Outs. Tom, Rohan and Oli M also completed their allotted overs without conceding any extras.  Hursley Park ending on 281. Game on !

After some juice and Biscuits it was the turn of Twyford the begin their chase.

Maggie and Oscar opened up and made a great start by getting 12 off the first over, Maggie hitting anything outside the line with great power and Oscar running like a whippet to steal some quick singles. The runs kept flowing in the first partnership, Maggie dispatched 2 more fours in the 3rd over (She did tell me that she thinks she hits it harder than her dad……………. Dan?). A great first pair got us off to a flying start. Next in was Conor and Robbie , again the singles kept coming to keep the scoreboard pressure on Hursley Park. A Steady partnership kept Twyford above the asking rate. Next in was Tom and Rohan , again applying the pressure on the Hursley fielders with some quick running between turning singles into two`s. Rohan also dispatched some fearsome boundaries. Twyford remaining above the asking rate. Rich and Oli C then were in next and had to contend with a great spell of bowling for Hursely Park but this did not deter them and they kept positive and took the score the 20 short for the last pair. Game on still!

Samuel H and Oli M strode to the crease in an attempt to get Twyford over the line. By the middle of the pairs second over the score had been passed with some great batting by both. Fours were flying both sides of the wicket and singles off almost every other ball saw Twyford through to 308 , a win by 27 runs. Again a great all round batting performance. Special mentions to Maggie, Rohan, Samuel and Oli M who all hit 3 fours and scored nearly 20 runs each individually. Our running between the wickets and understanding of when to take singles was brilliant and it showed as we had 3 pairs who scored 25 or more in their partnership (Maggie/Oscar, Tom/Rohan, Samuel/Oli M). The final pair scored just under 40 and there was only 2 balls in their 4 overs which conceded no runs which is a great credit to Samuel and Oli.

All in all a great game played in a good spirit against a very gracious and spirited opposition – Good luck to Hursely Park for the rest of the season. Thanks for all the side line support as always. Our next adventure is against the mighty IBM Hursley.
