Sadly the mighty Twyford U9s’ winning streak has been broken against a very good Broughton team.
The sun was beating down. The confidence was high. The scene was set for another enthralling game, and this one did not disappoint. Twyford lost the toss and were duly asked to bat by the visiting captain.
Unlike the first few games of the season we lost a few early wickets which stalled progress so we were always playing catch up. The innings was then steadied and we made progress through the partnerships. We started to gain momentum towards the end of the innings and a partnership of 23 between Rohan and Ollie and then 47 for final pair partnership between Samuel and Jacob saw us through to a defendable 291 for 5. Special mention to Jacob for top scoring again with 21, including another massive six!
Onto the innings break and another amazing spread was presented to the opposition and home team, another set of compliments from the visiting Manager and Coach for our hospitality.
After the innings break Twyford took to the field full of enthusiasm to defend their 291. The Broughton opening pair started really well but this did not dampen the spirits of the fielding team who continued to chase everything and dive to save boundaries. Twyford managed to effect three more runs outs in this game, Rohan for the third game running getting a direct hit run out! Other runs outs from Samuel and Conor. Special mention to Jacob for his fielding effort and his great diving catch! The bowlers all bowled well again, Maggie and Ollie completing their two overs without any extras – well done! Wicket takers for the innings were Jacob, Ollie and Miles. The game went down to the last over with both teams still in it, unfortunately a four half way through the over sealed the game for Broughton. Lots of positives to take from the game and also a few things to work on at the next training session, but overall another great spirited performance from Twyford. Next up Hursley Park who will no doubt prove to be very strong opposition.
Thanks as always to the vocal home crowd!
