The Under 13s
fielded a squad of 25 players this year many of whom had by now been
with the club for five seasons and everyone was looking forward to a
summer of cricket.
Sadly the poor
summer weather meant that more matches were cancelled than played
and in the end the team only played four competitive matches and one
hastily arranged friendly fixture. The best match was a thrilling
one in the second round of the Barfoot Plate played against Saint
Cross C which ended in a tie, St Cross eventually going through on
the count back.
There were some
good individual performances - great bowling from Alex Reidy and
Chris Brown who both averaged under 10 runs per wicket for the
season - some aggressive batting from Luke Ardley and James Byrne -
some superb fielding and throwing from Ben Cook and Joseph Osborne
and three stumpings and two catches from Nick Moreland behind the
wicket.
Many thanks to
Adrian Brown, who in only his first season as coach , had to step
into the breach as Mike McKenzie was working overseas for a lot of
the summer. Hopefully by next season he will have leaned that there
are six not seven balls in an over (sorry Adrian!)
The season was
concluded by the club presentation ceremony where prizes were
awarded as follows:-
Best
batsman: James Byrne
Best
bowler: Alex Reidy
Best fielder: Ben Cook
Coaches award: Luke Ardley
