Twyford Cricket Club – Seniors
OVERVIEW OF CRICKET SEASON – 2010
Twyford Cricket Club Seniors participated in the Hampshire Cricket League Regional Division Three North East and by all accounts enjoyed a relatively successful 2010 Cricket season. Success being measured by the following criteria:
-
We won more games than we lost – played — – won 6 – lost 5
-
We were able to ‘bleed’ more Colts into the senior team with a minimum of 3 playing on a regular basis and up to 5 in some games
-
We were able to field a team throughout the season as more players joined, when at the beginning of the season there was a lack of players
On the batting side, our leading run scorer for the season was Kev West who scored 328 runs at an average of 32.80 and which included one 50 and one hundred – in the 1st game of the season at St Mary’s which had an extremely short boundary at square enabling ‘Westy’ to play his favourite cut shot and actually get the ball off the square.
The next highest run getter for the team was Alex Reidy, one of our most promising Colts, who scored 209 runs from 7 innings (average 29.86) and inluded 2 x 50′s. Alex also supported his batting with some fine bowling performance and took 11 wickets whilst conceding 159 runs from a total of 42 overs bowled. Truly an outstanding all round performance and much is expected of Alex in the upcoming season.
Other contributors on the batting front included:
S Whiting – 124 runs from 6 innings – average of 20.67 and one 50 scored
On the bowling side, our leading wicket taker was John Paine (or more affectionately referred to as ‘Pops’ ) who took 15 wickets from 100 overs at an average of 16.53 and an economy rate of 2.48 runs per over. Our most economical bowler however was Andrew Spencer, who in desperation to field a team was reluctantly pressed back into cricket action after some considerable lay off since last playing at university, but who like a duck to water took a wicket with the first ball he bowled on his comeback to cricket. Andrew finished the season taking 12 wickets from 29 overs conceding a mere 52 runs with an economy rate of just 1.79 runs per over. More of the same is expected from Andrew in the upcoming season.
Other contributors on the bowling front included:
S. McKenzie (better known as ‘Dino’) – 12 wickets from 71.3 overs – average 24.25 economy rate – 4.10 runs per over
M. Paine – 11 wickets from 53 overs – average 20.82 economy rate – 4.32 runs per over
We celebrated a successful season with a ‘family’ bbq at Hunters Park on the last game of the season and this reflects the ethos of the Twyford Cricket Club Seniors. We are a family, some of which have played cricket together for more years than we care to remember or admit. We take the game seriously but at the end of the game everyone goes to the pub to have a pint and take the ribbing out of each other.
It is this family togetherness which continues to keep the ‘senior’ players turning out year in year out. But also keeping us going are the Colts coming through from the Colts structure that the Club set up years ago who will eventually take the place of the current seniors and ensure the Club continues to play cricket at Hunters Park.
We would welcome any new player to join the Club. Irrespective of your cricket skills or how long ago you played, if you are interested in playing cricket contact any of the officials or come up to the grounds at Hunter Park.
