Twyford U9s victorious again after win vs Compton & Chandlers Ford
Another great day for cricket. Another home game. Perfect!
Oli Marshall was selected as Captain for this game as we welcomed a very spirited Compton and Chandlers Ford to our Twyford school fortress. Oli won the toss and it was decided Compton would bat first. As is now customary this season we welcomed another debutant into the team, Max LB.
Oli as captain took responsibility for the first over, a nice economical over. Further pressure applied to the Compton batters with some great fielding and tight bowling led to a great Run Out by Samuel H. After four dot balls in the third over Rohan bowled a great controlled slower ball to get the second Compton wicket, bowled top of middle. Compton batted with confidence and some good running to keep the score ticking along nicely but as ever Twyford stuck to their guns and bowled and fielded well, Compton only able to score 3 boundaries between overs 3 and 14. This pressure meant some risks were taken and wickets presented themselves a great catch in the covers by Tom giving Ollie C his first wicket and another clever and calm piece of thinking by Samuel H resulting in another Run Out. The 15th over was a maiden by Oscar G and with Rohan picking up another wicket in the last over Compton were restricted to 228 for 5 in their allotted overs. Again a great all round performance from the Twyford Team. Special mentions to Samuel for his two Run Outs, Rohan for his two wickets and to Tom for holding onto a good catch.
Tea was taken and enjoyed by all. Thanks as always to the Twyford parents for all effort they put in to ensure there are drinks and snacks and that the opposition is well looked after. Big thanks also for senior team legend John Paine for coming to support the future stars this week.
Knowing Compton would come out fighting we needed a good start. Oli M and debutant Max opened up and got things off to a good start. Oli played a good responsible innings supporting Max and ensured runs were taken when on offer. 35 from the first four overs, just what we needed. Next up Milo and Ollie C who ran well and although we lost a few wickets never gave up and kept being confident. Third pair in Tom and Rohan looking to score a 6th consecutive 30 plus partnership and guide us through the tricky middle overs. Again they did not disappoint. Tom hitting three fours and Rohan hitting two fours. We were now clear of the Compton score. Final pair in to see us home was Oscar and the returning Samuel H. A cautious start for these two yielded 11 from the first two overs and 8 from the third, this was enough for Samuel H! 6,6,6 the first three balls of the final over – one of them nearly decapitating the watching parents in the home side dug out. And to finish off another 4 and another 50 partnership for Oscar and Samuel their second of the season. Again a great all round win, Good running between the wickets and some solid batting when required. Special mention to Samuel H for his three consecutive sixes, not sure any of the Seniors have matched that feat this season yet……….. a challenge for you Mr Reidy.
Big thanks to Compton for a really enjoyable game played with great spirit.
